Police investigation is underway to find the cause of death and the circumstances on how the the two children ended inside the car. According to reports, the two were last seen playing in the same car on March 27, 2013. One of the parents said in an interview that they looked inside the car during their initial search but they did not find anyone there. The garage is located near the house of the victims.
Several speculations are now circulating among the barangay residents including the victims' parents. Most prominent of these speculations is that the children were kidnapped for their organs. A victim's parent told some media that her child's eyes were missing but police said that this maybe due to the bodies' advanced stage of decomposition.
